Founded in 1925, the Poughkeepsie Branch of the American Association of University Women has been active in the areas of education, international understanding, community needs, the arts, and the status of women.
We continue to be involved in education both nationally and on the local level. We support the AAUW Educational Foundation (EF) through annual donations. In addition, the Poughkeepsie Branch donates a yearly scholarship to a graduate of Dutchess Community College who is continuing education at a four year college.
An ongoing tradition of the Poughkeepsie Branch is the Woman of the Year award presented annually to a Dutchess County woman who had made an outstanding contribution to the community.
The Poughkeepsie Branch was recognized by the Association and New York State division for achieving 5% increase in membership, contribution to the Legal Advocacy Fund (LAF), the Girl Scout Equity project, sustained public policy advocacy and leadership development.
