Poughkeepsie AAUW, Inc. is an award winning branch that is large enough to be an effective voice in the community, yet small enough to maintain a personal link among its members. We take pride in the diversity of our membership as we encompass a wide range of ages, backgrounds and interests. We look forward to including you as a part of our exciting organization.
We raise money for scholarships each year. Some of this money is distributed by the national association, but we also give a scholarship each year to a Dutchess Community College student who will be continuing with her education. The Branch currently supports several interest groups: a Diversity group, Leading to Reading, Girls’ Conference, Voters Registration, a Public Interest group, a painting group, three literature groups, two cuisine groups, a Bridge group, a hiking group, a day-trip“travel” group, a needlecraft circle, a golf group and a new Word game club! Each group is very active. Our monthly meetings cover a wide range of topics, from educational issues to women’s history and health issues.
Our 2009-2010 membership fee is $75.00 which will be sufficient to carry you through June 30th, 2010. This amount covers: National Association dues, New York State Division dues, Poughkeepsie Branch dues, and the newsletters from all levels of the organization and participation is all Branch special interest groups and general meetings. A reduced fee is available for students who wish to join the branch as affiliate members.
